Saina Molazem

Saina Molazem

Film editor and researcher. I study how editing builds fear in horror and cult cinema, and how audiences re-edit these films into cult culture.

Each cut is a decision about duration, rhythm and what the viewer is allowed to see.

Editing and fear in horror and cult cinema

Draft essay and video essay

The first part analyses editing style in The Lighthouse: how rhythm, duration and broken continuity unsettle the viewer’s sense of time and reality. The second part will examine how audience re-edits, fan videos and clip culture shape what becomes a cult film.

Overview This project asks how editing shapes the experience of fear in horror and cult cinema, and how audiences’ own re-editing helps build cult culture around these films.

Part one: editing and dread The first part analyses editing style in The Lighthouse: rhythm, duration and broken continuity, and how they unsettle the viewer’s sense of time and reality. A draft text is complete, and a companion video essay is in progress.

Part two: audience re-editing The second part will examine how fan edits, clips and other forms of re-editing shape a film’s afterlife as a cult object. This part is still at the research stage.

Status Draft available on request.
